A presentation by Emma Martins, Data Protection Commissioner.
We are immersed in a world that gorges on, and profits from, our personal data, often without us even being aware. The way that all this data are handled has a real world impact on us as individuals and the societies we live in. Data protection can no longer be seen as a tiresome administrative burden that we are faced with when we walk through the doors of our workplaces; it has become fundamental to almost every aspect of our lives. Only when we engage with the compliance duties contained within the law understanding its real world value can we begin to leverage the huge opportunities that the digital era offers us.
